What we collect about you and your children, why, and what happens to it.

Last updated: 7 September 2026.

Who we are

Streams Workshops is the trading name of Streams Learning Hub CIC, a community interest company registered in England and Wales under company number 14890192. Our registered office is 5 Beaufort Place, Frenchay, Bristol, BS16 1PE. You can reach us at jo@streamslearninghub.com.

We run workshops, hub days and events for home-educated young people in and around Bristol.

These terms

These terms apply to every booking, waiting list place and family membership made through streamsworkshops.com. When you pay for a booking or join as a member you agree to them, and that takes the place of a signed parent and carer agreement. The version shown on this page at the time you book is the one that applies to that booking.

Some of the workshops listed on our site are run by partner organisations. Where we take your payment, these terms apply and the partner’s own house rules may apply as well. Where a listing tells you to book and pay with the partner directly, your contract is with them and their terms apply instead.

Nothing in these terms affects your rights as a consumer under UK law.

How we learn together

Streams Workshops is a self-directed learning community for home-educated young people, not a school. There is no set curriculum, there are no compulsory lessons, and we do not assess your child or write reports. Young people choose their own activities during our sessions, and the community supports them to learn according to their own interests, in their own way and at their own pace.

  • You remain the parent responsible for your child’s education. Our sessions supplement the learning that happens at home and elsewhere.
  • By booking an in-person hub session you confirm that your child is deregistered from school. We are not able to take young people who are flexi-schooled, because of local authority restrictions.
  • We are not registered with Ofsted and we are not an alternative provision.

Your account

  • You must be 18 or over and the parent or carer responsible for each child you add.
  • Keep your details accurate, especially your mobile number: it is how we reach you on the day.
  • Keep your sign-in details private and tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account.
  • One account covers your whole family. If we believe an account is being used dishonestly or in a way that harms others we may suspend or close it, and we will tell you why.

Your children’s details

When you add a child we ask for their name and date of birth, your relationship to them, any allergies (write "None" if there are none), any medical conditions, any additional needs, up to two emergency contacts and whether you consent to photographs. Our facilitators rely on this information on the day, so:

  • Give us everything we need to keep your child safe, including any medication they carry and how to use it.
  • Update the record from your account as soon as anything changes.
  • Tell us before a session about anything that might affect how your child takes part.

If your child has additional or special educational needs, with or without a diagnosis, tell us before you book: add it to their record and email us, so we can talk it through and make sure we are able to meet their needs. We make reasonable adjustments and encourage young people to manage their own needs, but we are not a specialist provision and cannot offer one-to-one support.

Age ranges on our listings are guidance to help you choose. Our in-person hub sessions are designed for home-educated young people, generally aged 12 to 18. If you are not sure a workshop suits your child, email us before you book.

Booking and paying

  • Availability shown on the site is a guide. A place is only confirmed when your payment goes through and you receive a confirmation email, which is your receipt.
  • While you pay, the places you are booking are held for about 35 minutes. If payment is not completed in that time the hold is released and nothing is charged.
  • Your card is authorised while we confirm the places and charged only once they are yours. If the places are lost in the meantime, the authorisation is released in full.
  • Payments are taken by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.
  • Prices are in pounds sterling. Where a workshop is priced per session, joining a block part-way through is charged for the sessions still to come. Where a block has one fixed price, that price is charged in full whenever you join.
  • Free events still need a booking so we know who is coming.
  • Any credit on your account is used before your card is charged.
  • One payment can cover several children and several workshops from your basket.

Paying in instalments

Where we offer it, a booking of £100 or more can be paid in three equal monthly payments at no extra cost: the first when you book, the rest taken automatically from the same card on the same date in each of the following months.

  • Choosing "Pay in 3" is your agreement to those payments, and Stripe keeps your card on file for them.
  • If a payment does not go through we try again a few days later and email you. If it still fails we mark it overdue and email you again. You can pay any outstanding amount yourself from your account at any time.
  • Your places are kept while a payment is outstanding, but we may ask you to settle before you book again.
  • If you cancel sessions on a plan, their value comes off the payments still to be taken before any credit is added to your account. Sessions already attended stay payable.
  • This is our own interest-free arrangement, not a loan from a third party, and it never costs more than paying in full.

Family membership

  • Membership is £20 a month per family. It takes £5 off every workshop session for every child on your account, unless a workshop shows its own member price. Some fixed-price workshops are not discounted, and the listing says so.
  • Membership renews monthly through Stripe until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your account; it then runs to the end of the month you have paid for.
  • If a renewal payment fails, member prices pause until your card is updated. Bookings you have already made keep the price you paid.
  • Membership is never required to book.
  • If you join and change your mind within 14 days, and have not yet booked at a member price, email us and we will refund the fee.

Bursary places

We keep a share of places at a reduced bursary rate for families who need it. We do not ask for proof: if it would help, email us and we will apply the rate to your account so you see it at checkout. The tiered rates run on honesty and trust, and we value both. If paying becomes difficult at any point, email us as soon as you can and we will work something out together.

Waiting lists

If a workshop is full you can join its waiting list. When a place comes free we email everyone waiting. The first to book gets it; nobody is held a place.

Cancelling a booking

  • You can cancel a whole booking or a single session from your account up to 24 hours before the session starts. The amount you paid for that session is returned to your account as credit within a few minutes.
  • Credit does not expire, can be spent on any future booking for any child on your account, and is not paid out as cash.
  • Inside 24 hours nothing is returned automatically. If something has gone wrong, such as illness, get in touch and we will look at it. Any refund to your card is at our discretion.
  • Because every session is for a specific date, the 14-day cooling-off period that applies to most online purchases does not apply to workshop bookings (Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013: services related to leisure activities on a specific date). Your other statutory rights are unaffected.

If we cancel or change a session

  • If we cancel a session, for example because a facilitator is ill, the venue is unavailable, the weather makes it unsafe or too few people have booked, every family booked on it receives credit for that session automatically and we email you.
  • If we move a session’s time or room, we email you and your place moves with it. If the new time does not work for you, get in touch and we will credit the session.

Attendance, arriving and going home

  • Hub days run from 10:30 to 15:30 with doors open from 10:00. Other workshops show their own times on the listing.
  • Please arrive on time. If your young person will be late or absent, because of an appointment or a travel delay for example, let us know. Staying for the whole day is encouraged: it lets your young person take a full part in the day’s activities and in the decisions the community makes, and lets facilitators plan sessions properly.
  • You are responsible for getting your child to and from the venue. We are responsible for your child only during the session, at the venue or on an outing we have organised.
  • If someone who is not a parent, or an adult already known to us, will collect your child, tell us in advance in writing by email, giving their name, their phone number and a password they will use. We will call you to confirm we have received it, and we will not release your child to anyone we have not been told about.
  • If you want your child to travel home on their own at the end of a session, email us in advance to say so.
  • A session that is not cancelled in time and not attended is not credited.

Health, safety and emergencies

  • Our staff are DBS-checked, we have a Designated Safeguarding Lead and first-aid trained team members, and we run every session to our safeguarding policy. Ask us if you would like a copy.
  • We risk-assess the spaces we use so that risk is managed while young people keep the freedom to choose, and we hold appropriate insurance for our staff and members.
  • We trust young people to take a part in judging risk for themselves and to know their own boundaries and capacities, and we accept that accidents can sometimes happen. Any accident or injury is recorded in our accident book and we will tell you the same day.
  • In an emergency we will give first aid and contact you or your emergency contacts. By booking you authorise our staff, at their discretion, to obtain emergency medical care for your child when they judge it necessary, including calling the emergency services.
  • Tell us about any medication your child carries and how it should be used.
  • We are not responsible for personal belongings brought to a session.

Outings

Some sessions include short activities away from the venue: the local shops at lunchtime, the park, a visit to a local business for a workshop, or a community event. We tell you before the day when an outing is planned, and an appropriate number of adults supervise.

  • By booking you consent to your child taking part in these local outings. If you have specific needs or concerns about outings, tell us and we will discuss them with you.
  • Adventurous activities and trips, such as ice skating, climbing or a survival camp, always have their own risk assessment and a separate consent form. Your child will not take part without it.

Our community

Young people, parents and carers, facilitators, volunteers and staff are all members of this community, and each is entitled to the respect due to every person. Young people have fewer duties than the adults in upholding that culture, and more rights to care and protection from every adult. As a parent or carer we ask you to help build a culture of mutual respect, to set and hold your own boundaries, and to share our values of accountability, inclusion and mutual support.

  • If a disagreement arises, raise it with the management team by email. If it concerns a member of the management team, raise it with another member of the team.
  • If a young person’s behaviour puts themselves or others at risk we may ask them to leave a session, and we will always talk to you first where we can.

In rare cases we may ask a member of the community to leave. The reasons would be:

  • consistently disrespectful, contemptuous or hostile behaviour towards other members, in words or otherwise
  • intimidating, threatening, harassing or assaulting other members of the community
  • not paying fees as agreed in these terms
  • not following through on a plan put in place to support a young person’s wellbeing and their ability to be part of the community in a healthy way
  • disrespectful behaviour online, including damaging the reputation of Streams Workshops on social media

If you have a complaint, email us and we will follow our complaints procedure. Ask us if you would like a copy.

Photos and media

We only photograph or film a young person where you have given consent on their record, and we use those images only for our own website, social media and printed materials. You can change your consent at any time from your account. If you withdraw it we stop using new images of your child from that point.

Our responsibility to you

  • We will run the workshops you book with reasonable care and skill.
  • Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit.
  • We are not responsible for losses we could not reasonably have foreseen when you booked, or for losses caused by events outside our control.
  • If something goes wrong, email us and we will do our best to put it right.

Changes, law and contact

  • We may update these terms and our other policies. We announce changes by email and on our Heartbeat community app, and the version on this page when you book is the one that applies to that booking.
  • These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
  • Questions about a booking or these terms: jo@streamslearninghub.com. How we look after your information is set out in our privacy policy.
